Question by : Cable modem. Easy points for answer?
What does the bypass light mean on a cable modem. Asking for someone.
Answer by sri
Not trying to be technical, but the bypass was a small “accessory” coax switch physically mounted to the back of the cable set top box (STB); it also had a small control plug going into the box electronics.
The coax passed thru the bypass device, and when commanded by the STB electronics, the device could shunt the RF signal completely around the STB. (i.e. “bypassing” it)
Without the physical bypass switch mounted on the back of the STB, the “bypass” light is just a meaningless indicator.
Just ignore it 🙂
