My cousin gave a computer to my grandparents. But he had it set up to put a password in to even sign in to the computer. He says he forgot the password. They can’t get on the computer at all. Does anyone know a way to bypass that password or set up another user or anything to get onto the computer? Any help would be appreciated.

It’s embarrassingly easy to bypass the Windows XP log-on password: Simply restart your PC and press the F8 key just before Windows starts. At the Advanced Options menu, select the first option: Safe Mode. XP will boot into Safe Mode and display a log-on screen with icons for already-established user names, as well as an icon for Administrator. Log onto the Administrator account–leaving the password blank unless you’ve previously assigned a password for the account–and once in Windows, open the Control Panel and select User Accounts. Now you can reset the passwords for any account.

Have them restart the computer and then while the system is booting tap the F8 key until it asks how you want to load the operating system. Log on in safemode and if it lets you go in and change the password once your logged on.
or if it asks you, log on as administrator..

What is the operating system?
You can try logging in as the administrator and don’t type a password or you can get the Knoppix 5.1 live cd and boot it up. Go to windows/system32 and look for a SAM file, change the login password on this file and save the changes.

If it’s a windows machine you can do a search for lost administrator password, and you might be able to get some software to help that way. The real answer is that the password is there so others can’t get in. If you don’t have the password then you are usually out of luck. That’s what they’re for.

Start it in safe mode by pressing f8 every few seconds when it first starts to boot up. Then run the software above try to crack it you might get lucky.
