When I try to start up my desktop computer a black screen appears and it says I must type in a password, well i try to type it in, and my keyboard wont let me type in anything but the enter key. so when i do the enter key, the computer says "invalid passowrd, must power down." then I have to manually turn off the computer and turn it back on. is there anyway to just restart this password thing or bypass this. i cant get onto anything on my computer now. i need help.
well if u hav a dell, dnt u hav free customer support.cuz i hav a dell and an alienware and i hav support for both of them.
but i dnt knw anythin bout tht, srry i couldnt b more help.
If this password screen is prior to Windows startup, this is a bios password. It must be time for you to change your CMOS battery, which powers the storage for basic bios info like the time/date. It's a big watch battery-looking thingy thing thing on your motherboard. Make sure your power is OFF, and disconnected before fooling with it.
There different types of password in a computer.. the cmos passwords and windows passwords.
cmos bios password are configured on bios itself... it is a password being ask when you enter into a cmos bios..
the other is startup password "cant recall of the exact term" it is a passwor which i believe you have been encountered... a password protection configured also in cmos bios.. it is password being ask before windows logo appears or before user login appears...
the other is windows password, a password that lets you in through windows....
now the problem is you cant type on the keyboard... first check if the keyboard is connected properly to the cpu... you can also borrow a keyboard and try it in you computer... this will work..
the other problem is you dont know the password...
2 things you can do... take the cmos/bios battery out or configure the the cmos/bios jumper..
cmos battery lies on your motherboard, so you need to open your cpu... look for a battery, take this out for 10seconds or more then put it back... but first make sure that the power is unplug...
you can also configure cmos/bios jumper... its a 3 pins jumper, the pins are connected, lets say first and middle... the first thing that you should do is take the jumper out, then put the jumper to pins middle and last.. put it for about 10seconds.. then take the jumper and put it back to first and middle... also make sure sure the power is turn off....
be carefull on your motherboard..
put your cpu back,,, and thats it...
more details, contact me..
hope this help!
on desktop mbd's there should be a junper block on it and you will have to look around it rea close and there will be a password clear, look at all the markings and it will show you which jumper it is and what pins to move it to, I used to work at gateway for nine years and that was one of the first things we did to every system was to clearthose passwords and clear the nvram, if you are not able to figure it out there will be a battery about the size of a battery on the mbd if you pull that out for about five minutes and put it back in it should set your cmos back to defaults
A lot of computers are different in how they can get bypassed, look up the Dell company phone number and call a tech during their opening hours.
Try to download Winternal ERD commander, copy it to a disk and boot your PC with the disk you just made, ERD will bring its own -windows looking type- on the toolbar you will click on the locksmith icon the reset your password. That should work.
