How Can I Recover Files That Have Been Deleted From A Computer?
| September 30, 2009 | Posted by HTBP under How to Bypass |
my housemate has accidentally deleted a particularly important document, belonging to my partner, from his computer. His system is set up to bypass the recycle bin and just remove the document,is there still a way for me to recover it. I have tried various "undelters" and they don't seem to find the right file
Having just deleted a file that you wish to recover, the more that you use the computer, the more likely it is that the file that you wish to recover will have been overwritten, as new files are created all the time when you are using your computer.
One undelete program that does work (I've used it to solve the same problem as you have), which you would have to install first to use and therefore increase the chance of not being able to recover the file, is recuva. (It's freeware)
If you have another drive that you can install it on, rather than the drive that the undeleted file is on, install it on there. (Such as a USB stick)
Save any files which can be 'recovered' to this second drive.
Also, don't keep on surfing the web looking for answers to your 'file recovery problem', as all of the cached files from web-browsing will be written to your hard drive, increasing the chance that the file that you want to recover will be overwritten. (Continuing to do more or less anything with the computer will increase the chance of that one file being overwritten and being unrecoverable.)
Unfortnuatly i dont think you can recover these files. It is never a good idea to bypass the recycle bin incase something is deleted by accident or you later realise you need something.
Im not sure if a system restore may work but i think system restore does not restore files.
If you don't have a recycle bin to get it out of, i don't think you can recover the file, but i thought all computers had recycle bins
do not panic just go ito Your recycling and all your deleted file will be in there but once you delete them from there you will not get them back
Hi:
you might Try the System Restore However if your turn off your computer or restarted it you won't get it back. He will have to retype the whole documant back (Fun) . However tell your housemate to store his/ her important documents on a CD ,DVD , or better yet get a external disk drive that can hold 750 Gig to one terabyte of infomation they can be bought for 100 to 300 bucks and it can be plugged or unplugged with effecting the computer main drive. you can also buy and use a flash memory stick drive; with them you can plug them in and unplug them in after your done updating you document and your Data is safe ( once you save it to it) and close at hand and at 40 to 80 dollar a clip ( depending on memory size ( 1 to 16 gigabytes)) there well worth the cost . Just remember to back it up or save to it often . Another trick we computer programmer used back in the 1980's was to save the newer document using a silighty different name or add the new date to it; like for a example I was writtting the book "The Horror on Main Street " I would save it as The Horror on Main Street - 6-10- 1999 ( Assume it was 6-10- 1999) the Latest would The Horror on Main Street - 6- 15- 1999 ( when I was doing it on that date ) When I made made my third update After I save it on this date, I would delete the one dated delete the 6-10-1999 one, or you could save it to a disk than delete it from the main computer. that way you got a record of it if you need it. Another trick is add a Verision number to it for a example:
"The Horror on Main Street - Ver 1.0 the next update would be labeled "The Horror on Main Street Ver 1.1 or Ver 2.0 depend on your liking but it will keep track of latest update Also make sure you save it to disk as well and or / other memory storage devices as well.
I hope this helps.
