“You do not have untreated depression or another major psychiatric disorder.” Why is this?? Could me being an unmedicated, documented Bipolar have any effect on me possibly getting this surgery?

They’re probably trying to avoid performing the surgery on people with untreated eating disorders. A compulsive overeater or bulimic might still overeat after the surgery, with disastrous results. You should ask your doctor about your specific condition.

  1. Because first of all, you have to have the psychological readiness to make the lifestyle and diet changes necessary for the surgery to work! Then,if you aren’t stable and ready to accept the changes, or if you have and pscyhological problems down the road, you’ll blame ALL your problems on having gastric bypass surgery, when, in truth, it wasn’t the surgery at all that was your problem. This is a huge, major, life changing operation and if you are not mentally sound, you won’t be able to deal with it. Trust me, I know. My life has changed more than I could ever have imagined since I had surgery.
