How do I log off my macbook pro (leopard os) without ending all my windows and applications?

Question by lesiak1989: How do I log off my macbook pro (leopard os) without ending all my windows and applications?
I’m back home for winter break, and I don’t want people snooping around my computer, but I hate having to restart everything I am doing (by logging of) when I walk away for a couple of hours. As of right now my only option is to log off and end/save everything I am doing. This is getting to be very tedious so please any help with this annoyance would be appreciated.

  1. Set the computer to require a password on system wake (In the Security pane of System Preferences.) Now, you can put it to sleep, and when it wakes up, the screen will be black with a password prompt.
