Question by Online G: How to create a deceptive black screen on my computer?
I want to create a fake black screen display on my computer; essentially, I want the display to have the following properties:

(a) To an observer it appears that the computer is switched off.

(b) However, the mouse and other applications continue to work; you can click icons and start applications. The only thing is that you can't see what is happening (or what you are clicking).

(c) There is a "secret way" to get from "normal" to "black screen mode" and back

Basically, I am using an "auto mouse mover and clicker" to run certain applications on my computer. But I don't want others to see what applications are running (started and stopped by my auto mouse mover and clicker), but at the same time, I want them to run. I also want some method to get back to normal from the "black screen mode"; perhaps some password or "hotkey" of some sort.

Thanks in advance for all the help; I'd really appreciate a useful answer to this question as this is very important at the moment (please don't ask me why!). Also, I'll definitely reward the best answer with 10 points, and give it a thumbs up as well.

The problem with simply turning the monitor off is that anyone with a bit of intelligence could turn it back on. I'd like to create a deceptive black screen that only a "secret code" could "unlock" (perhaps a hotkey or a password). Can you please suggest a way to turn off the monitor such that only a password can turn it on (though I'd like a trick not involving the monitor if possible)? Thanks everyone and please give an answer as soon as possible!

Best answer:

Answer by saidan_ryuuza
I used to use a Virtual Desktop program called VirtuaWin (http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/) that would allow me to hit a hot key on my keyboard to switch to a virtual desktop that had either a) Nothing open on it b) work related documents. Outside of trying to be sly with your boss or girlfriend, it is actually very productive to be able to keep work stuff on one desktop and play stuff on the other. This program allows you to have up to 9 virtual desktops. And unless someone knows the program is installed and knows your customizable hot-key to switch desktops, they would not know the other existed. However the Task Manager would still show what tasks were running. Mac and Linux users have this functionality built in. So if you are running a Mac, look into a program called Spaces that should ship with Leopard and Snow Leopard

I used this on XP and Vista and it worked great, but I can't seem to get it to work properly on Windows 7. Hope this helps.

Question by guitarstrummin: Re: Computer Question?
I am attempting to access a profile with a company online; I have already set up this profile, however, upon attempting to "access" my profile, it states I cannot access because it is locked...and I am instructed to contact the system administrator. I am using my "personal" computer. Upon looking up the abbreviation for "system administrator," it states "...is a person employed to maintain and operate a computer system and/or network. System administratiors may be members of an information technology department." I cannot get through to the airline company...it must be handled online. How can I "unlock" something that I was unaware was locked????? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Metro
Generally when an account is locked, it's because someone tried to access it & typed the wrong password several times. So as a security measure, it was locked to prevent anyone accessing it. You will have to contact them to get it unlocked. There will be a link somewhere on the sign-in page (it might say Forgot Password?), to take you thru the process

Best answer:

Answer by The Phlebob
That sounds like a trial version of Microsoft Office that was good for 25 uses or 60 days. At the end of that time it stops letting you edit your files or create new ones. You have to purchase Microsoft Office 2007, or at least Word 2007, to do that.

Note: The 25-character product key on the computer case or laptop bottom is NOT the key for MS Office. It’s only for the Windows operating system.

Here are some of your options:

First, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Student edition of Office at a pretty good price ($ 59.95):

http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx

Second, if you’re interested in buying just Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx

Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software. Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully: MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.

Finally, if you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them. Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word to read Word 2007 files. If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents. Some new features of Word 2007 will be lost or converted to straight text in the conversion to the earlier version.

Good luck.

Question Details: My husband and I input virtually all our memories for the past 60-70 years on this program. Now I can raise the program but it won't open to show what's in there, nor allow me to add more. It's supposed to have a "key" to "unlock" it, but "Telling Stories" no longer answers e-mail and no longer exists online.
Any hints please - how to find the company or how to unlock the program.
Thanks PeeMee for trying so well. But these links don't work, as I had already discovered.
Thanks Mustbe, maybe I'll try that idea, but I have my doubts!

Is there a way to get my own ringers from my computer onto my phone?
I used a micro sd card and put it in my computer and there is no folder for ringers. I am able to put music and photos and stuff, but im just wondering about ringtones.
I have a feeling that Bell is like Telus and doesnt let you put your own ringtones on ur phone, cos they want you to buy them from their over priced store. Is that true?
If it is, is there an alternate way to "bypass" this?

Best answer:

Answer by Alysha
yea theres no way to put it on from your computer through your sd card but if you go to www.myxer.com and type in the song you want they usually have people that made the tone already or you can upload the song and make your own if you make an account there is also www.mobile17.com you can make ring tones thats how i get all my tons onto my instinct and they sounds good

On my work computer you can only get to wedsites that the IT team has "unblocked." All others come up "Site blocked by local policy." I know there is a way around this because someone at work has done it for me before. He no longer works at the company and last weekend they reimaged our computers. We are running Windows 2000 if that helps. They only thing I know about how it was done is that he went into some file/folder/doc and switched around a one and a zero. I don't know how much longer I can go with out the internet at work!
