I have a "locked" Netgear router. I don't know how to "unlock" it. I have the password for it but still can't make it work. :(

Well first of all you don't want to unlock your netgear router. That would open up your network and internet connection to just about anyone who is within 75-100 ft of your home. You wouldn't want that because they could see what is on any of your home computers/laptops connected to the network, and you would be providing free internet to the person who is using your network.

Anyway, what you can do is reset the router. There should be a small button on the back of the router that you can press and hold with a paper clip. Hold with a paper clip for about 6 seconds or until you see the lights on the router flash.

Once that is done your router will become unlocked. But promptly go into the router settings (type 192.168.1.1 into the internet explorer address bar) from any computer and recreate a passcode that you will remember. Try not to use WEP, it's not that hard to get into. While nothing is fool proof, I would suggest using WPA-Personal. I use that and it works with the iPod touch just fine. Once you set that up log into the network with your iPod touch using the password you created.

It should work fine

Hi all,

Lately i've been reading up on security options for my computer. Currently i have ESET Smart Security running, which i quite like for it's virus protection. But the firewall is under performing. As an example i was even able to click on "Unblock" remotely using the same remote-desktop application that the warning was for. Thus completely defeating the purpose of a firewall.

I think that Comodo would be a good firewall to switch to, but I'm not sure how the rest of their security suite performs.

What are your opinions on this?

COMODO's newest firewall has a tendency to crash programs frequently and cause many computer problems. I would use PCTools Firewall.

Just disable the firewall in ESET and use PCtools one

without using some kind of bypass, it's not possible...You should become friends with the network administrator. I guess asking is not possible.
With respect, it's blocked for a reason. Plenty of time for Facebook outside of the network

On my work computer you can only get to wedsites that the IT team has "unblocked." All others come up "Site blocked by local policy." I know there is a way around this because someone at work has done it for me before. He no longer works at the company and last weekend they reimaged our computers. We are running Windows 2000 if that helps. They only thing I know about how it was done is that he went into some file/folder/doc and switched around a one and a zero. I don't know how much longer I can go with out the internet at work!

Select Tool -> Internet Option -> Privacy -> At the bottom, titled Block pop-ups, click on settings.
In settings, you could add the website that you allow pop-ups to happen =)
