Question by : how can I view AVI files downloaded from Lime Wire on my comp. that has Windows Media Player and Quick Time?
What media player is associated with avi files? can i use windows media player or quick time player? as of now when i try to play the avi video files, windows media player initiates but gives this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file" ...... or i get a codec error and auto matically directed to a webpage wanting me to do surveys to "unlock" updates for windows media player codec, that is supposed to allow me to view these files....... looks like a scam to me.....does Quick time not support avi files and if so how do I make Lime Wire use Quick Time automatically for these files....thank you, mike

Best answer:

Answer by Fred H
get yourself a copy of VLC, that'll play everything. and its great for DVDs too.

Question by sgniqua1112: Windows Medial Player 11 for Vista HeLppp!!!! please...?
my laptop- that has windows media player 11- and Vista. Something pops up in my internet browser saying i have to download a license or something like that in order to protect the file.... how do i do that because i would really like my music back, so i can listen to it. Thanks in Advance for you help!!!

This is what it says when I try to play the file... "A license is required to play this file

The file you are trying to play was ripped (copied) from an audio CD.

During the ripping process, the file was "protected." This limits the number of computers on which the file can be played.

To play the file on this computer, you must download a license (a process known as "license migration"). A license acts an electronic key that allows you to "unlock" a protected file and play it.

To download a license for this file, click Download License."

......then I go on to click on the Download License Button, and it says I don't have the windows media services plug-in installed in my computer.... what Do I doo from there??
i already have the files downloaded from the CD and some of the CDs i borrowed therefore i dont have them anymore.... just as the music files on my flash drive and old computer... i tried to play them on the laptop but that screen keeps coming up
i need to know how to download the Windows Media Services Plug-In please and thanks!!!

Best answer:

Answer by superawesomecooldude
Try using "Exact Audio Copy" to copy the cd to perfect quality tracks to store on your computer instead of Windows. If you don't got the cd then you could try converting it or something and hopefully the protection will go away.

I would like to know how I can "unlock" the HTC HD7 (Windows Phone 7) that is exclusively available on T-Mobile. I prefer this phone over the others, so if you could, how can I do this? Does this mean I have to pay for a T-Mobile contract? How easy is it- or is it even possible with WP7?

Question by Mitch J: I recently Limewired a good version of a game, and Windows blocked it and gave directions on how to open it.?
I just limewired a game, checked it with bitzi, it's clean, and a friend downloaded the same game from limewire, from the same host. But when I try to unzip the file, the computer says it is blocking the file for safety reasons. Then it says:

If you are certain that you trust this file and want to open it, follow the instructions below.

Save the file onto your computer.
Click Start, click My Computer, and navigate to the file that you saved.
Right-click the file that you saved, and then click Properties.
Click Unblock near the bottom of the dialog box.

Well, I saved it, found the file where I had saved it, right clicked, went to properties, it said nothing about "Unblock" near the bottom of the dialog box.

Is there a way to disable this from blocking files like this at all, or to open the files an alternate way, or did I do something wrong?

Best answer:

Answer by Ben
By definition, bypassing the administrator is hacking. Your account is set up so you're not allowed to install anything. The passwords aren't stored on the computer (only the hashes are) so there's no way to lift them off. Basically, you're out of luck.

Question by Dethklok Guitar: How do i fix this windows error?
Well, whenever I try to open a program i get this message-Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have appropriate permissions to access the item. i have tried everything. including the whole "unblock" thing. Oh. and i'm running windows XP service pack 2. Please help.

Best answer:

Answer by Handy Helper
This is a pretty vague error which generally means that either:

1. The shortcut you're using is out of date (the program has moved)
2. The shortcut you're using has been orphaned (the program was uninstalled/deleted)
3. The shortcut is pointing to something on removable media (a dvd or memory stick that has been taken out)
4. You don't have permission to access the program (and if this is a home/personal computer, this probably isn't the case).

Try right clicking your shortcut and selecting properties. In the window that pops up, you'll see a "target" which is what the shortcut is trying to run.

If you then open My Computer and try to find this file, then you'll know if it's missing. So say your target is "c:\program files\winzip\winzip.exe" then in my computer go into c drive, then program files, then winzip, and look for winzip.exe.

If it's missing, reinstall it. If it's on a dvd or memory stick, I'm sure you'll know what to do!

Hope that helps.

Question by Christopher: How do you unblock the Internet on a computer with Windows 2000?
On my work computer you can only get to wedsites that the IT team has "unblocked." All others come up "Site blocked by local policy." I know there is a way around this because someone at work has done it for me before. He no longer works at the company and last weekend they reimaged our computers. We are running Windows 2000 if that helps. They only thing I know about how it was done is that he went into some file/folder/doc and switched around a one and a zero. I don't know how much longer I can go with out the internet at work!
